AMD's Phenom X3 - What to expect?

AMD will be releasing the world's first desktop triple-core CPU in 2nd half of 2008, along with the Phenom X2. PC Gaming Hardware from Germany has posted some results of these CPUs simulated by disabling the cores.
They are running the CPUs at 2.3GHz, like the Phenom X4 9600.
These could be very competitive CPUs if AMD manages to clock them a bit more and sell the for the price of Intel's dual-cores or something close. Even if clocked lower than the equivalent Intel, the extra core could give AMD an edge on performance.
