News about the next generation AMD/ATI chip have been floating the web.
The first details point to DX10.1, shader model 4.1 support, in line with the new RV670. But not just that, it could be manufactured at 45nm, and have a scalable architecture based on cores. Each of these cores will take 72 square mm and different market segments will enjoy chips with different amount of cores. Estimates point to one for the low-end, two for mainstream and 4 to 6 cores for the high-end chip.
Some sources claim Crossfire is used to make the cores work with each other, but that wouldn't make them scale well. I'm pointing to something like the "ultra dispatch processor", which is used in R600 chips to connect the different shader processor blocks, issuing chores to the cores in the most efficient way possible.
More news as they come, the chip is still 6+ months away(HD3800X2 comes first), so it could take some time till you ear about it again.
