AMD will cut prices in their Radeon HD 4800 line, VR-Zone reports, in order to pave way for the release of the Radeon HD 5800 cards:
Price of HD 4890 card will be lowered from US$249 to US$199 while HD 4870 will be priced at US$149, down from US$199. Lastly, HD 4850 which we already saw the prices plummeting due to HD 4770 shortages will go below US$100 this time.
This move can only mean that AMD has the new RV870 GPU almost ready and wants to clear the existing inventory as soon as possible - the 4850 can't be sold for below $100 for too long without AMD loosing money. AMD has already demonstrated working DX11 silicon, although it's rumored to be the RV840 part and not the RV870.
