Forza 3 developers Turn 10 has confirmed how the full Forza 3 experience will work. The additional content on disc two will be downloaded and stored on the Xbox 360’s hard drive. The game itself will run from the core content on disc one and, as the game is being played, data from the hard drive will be accessed to provide the additional content.
This was bound to happen, it was an "controversial" unwise move by Microsoft. The lack of an HDD is still hampering what the developers can do with the console, especially when the PS3 has one in every model.
The question now is what Microsoft is planning to do with the current Arcade owners - selling a 60GB HDD at $99 isn't quite right, neither a 120GB even more expensive.
The arcade model hasn't made sense in a good while, some may argue it should never even existed and that is probably true.
Turn10 hasn't exactly opened Pandora's box with Forza 3, since some games have already demanded the use of an HDD, but for a game that is the main Gran Turismo competitor nowadays, this is not exactly good news.
Here's a thought, with 8GiB flash memory at $15, it would be nice to skip the 512MB Arcade model altogether and go straight to that. Forza 3 will probably fit and still leave room for those Arcade games and add-ons which will make up for the hit in little time. Seeing a 60GB model at the same $199 would be ideal, but that is even less likely right now.
This won't fix the lack of space in dual layer DVDs but should help get around the most pressing issues and some games don't mind being split. Lost Odyssey is a prime example, taking up four DL discs.
