Consoles
Another take at Xbox ''Jasper'' power consumption figures
The power brick, the three versions and a "Falcon" and "Jasper" Elite Xbox 360 come together for some testing.
So, last time I took a look at the new "Jasper" based Xbox 360, I was rather surprised to see these power consumption figures:
Totally not what I was expecting. Either my power meter was bad or something was up. Microsoft likes to hide Jaspers but lying about a particular limited edition model seemed far fetched. The other theory was that the new 150w power brick may have too little power to handle the console, sending efficiency to the floor. As it turns out, I thought well:
I was also more careful to let the consoles play through more demanding scenes before writing down the number, which in this case showed increases for both models in load.
When comparing the two connected to either the 175w brick or the 203w capable version, from a "Zephyr", they stand apart about 20w, which should be accurate, since only the GPU was shrunk this time around.
The efficiency of the new model itself increased a considerable bit, now to safe levels. I would expect the 150w model to output only around 125w tops but it's very close to 140w when playing Mass Effect, something which may not bode well for the long term safety of the device. Time will tell.
The RRoD you see above is because the PSU connected with the lousy Talismoon Energyzer really gave me an RRoD a few seconds after turning the "Falcon" model on. This may due to the device not using any of the 12v lines in the 12v ATX plug and only the one in a 20pin ATX connector, not even 24 pins, which would have two. It's efficiency is not surprising to me, although the PSU was among the most efficient I have, separate 12v rails going unused cause this loss of efficiency.
One other thing concerning noise levels; from the samples I have the 175w is the worst, having a very high-pitched whine from the fan inside, which is louder than the console itself. This is neither the case for the 150 and 203w models, with both outputting close to the same noise level, the 150w model takes my prize for most silent power brick, although not by much. Contrary to the 175w model, they are both more silent than the console.

Thank you very much! This was very informative.
I have a 175w PSU with the "breathing holes" (came with the jasper). First i was worried about not having a 150w one but now i am relieved.
Fortunately it is also very silent.
Thanks again!
