Asus Striker II Extreme pictures - 790i Ultra inside

Some pictures of Asus's upcoming Nvidia 790i motherboard are available, and they show good stuff about it.
The board sports Asus 8-phase PWM circuitry, with the - now common on high-end boards - ferrite core chokes and low RDS(on) MOSFETS, which provide a more efficient and cool PWM module. Also present is two phase PWM design for the memory, shy from the three phase design present on the P5E3 Premium.
The board uses what seems to be a 790i Ultra SPP; the chipset is engraved with "790IU-SLI":

The board still uses the power hungry NF-570 SLI for AMD as the MCP, which is a considerable drawback in these new boards. By now, Nvidia should have already shrunk the chip like they did with the MCP55, which became the MCP65, and provided the same features, than it's predecessor, on a more friendly power envelope and with less manufacturing cost per chip.
Using Triple-SLI in this motherboard will result in only a PCIe x1 slot being available, which is still better than some competing motherboards, but still far from ideal. This can only be less of a problem if the new 9800 series end up with single slot cooling - not something likely - or if users replace the cooling system with something on a single-slot design.

On a very positive note, the new cooling system seems to be more than up to par, providing the now familiar watercooling option, without neglecting it's air cooling capacity.
