Nvidia GeForce GTS 450, GF106 Tips Up

Leaked shots of a GeForce GTS 450 show some interesting details about the new generation of more affordable performance cards based on the "Fermi" architecture. Clocks after the jump.

Being that the GF104, GeForce GTX 460 has already proven itself as a decent card with very good clocks, Nvidia is poised to keep the trend going with the new cut down version codenamed GF106.

Default clocks for the GeForce GTS 450 are 783/1566/3600 MHz for core, shader and memory, the ASUS GTS 450 TOP runs at 925/1850/4000.

HDMI, VGA and DVI, sadly lacking DisplayPort, although more flexible for current generations of hardware.

This is actually very interesting, the card has the memory laid out to receive 6 chips per side, or an 192bit memory controller, but only 4 chips are placed. Same on the other side. Seems like we will see some GTS 455 sometime.

6 pin power supply, still over 75W of power consumption. Not surprising given that it's also a very overclocked card.

The cooler is pretty big and has direct touch heatpipes, quality that ASUS has frequently gotten us used to on the premium models of their cards.

The chip is still rather big and right now everything points to a 192 shader card, distributed in four clusters of 48 SIMD units, like in the GF104 architecture. Do have a look at the GF104 diagrams for more details.

The naked chips on the left side, again. This is very likely a 192 bit capable memory controller, either that or Nvidia is expecting to drop a 192bit capable chip in the same pin out, something more unlikely to happen.

Preliminary performance is interesting but still very lagging off the Radeon HD 5770. I'd like to see non-AA and AF benchmarks for a better understanding of the card but we'll have to wait a little more on that. Given this performance, no wonder Nvidia is sticking to 128 bit memory to keep costs low, possibly going lower than $149.

Official launch of the card will be somewhere around the middle of the month.
