AMD Shows Bulldozer ''Orochi'' Die Shot

AMD's shows a picture of a Bulldozer 4 module die at a Global Foundries event. Is it for real? We have look.

"Orochi" is the codename for AMD's upcoming core with eight integer units, based on four Bulldozer modules and not an AMD Fusion part, at least for what is known currently. There are some problems with this supposed picture of the die though:

There are lot of inconsistencies that can be visible to the naked eye and the first that really stands out is that the upper cores and the lower cores are from different sizes. This of course called for some investigation, which upon I stumbled with an actual AMD PR which speaks to costumers and, more shockingly, actually tells the truth:

OK folks. About a week or two ago the request came to us to show the Orochi die at a GF event.
Obviously we were more than OK with our partner doing this, but at the same time, doing that would mean that we would definitely have our die out for the world to see. So, the reason that things are different porportions is that some are photoshopped. I am not saying which is correct and which is not, obviously.
Also, other areas were intentionally blurred in order to prevent the competition from knowing what it going on.
You are seeing a die, but you really can't even be sure that you are looking at the exact dimensions or shape.
Actual die shots are released with launch. That is a single Orochi die.

Nice to know, completely irrelevant for the people who attend the event and who probably don't care anyway, they were there just for the manufacturing business of GF anyway, and it stops rumors right there so everyone can go do something more productive than wondering about an architecture that's more than 6 months away.

Close zooming of the die picture shows the blur job done to keep some details private, being the cores are real or not.

I hope we can get better performance than any ohter Intel's CPU from it.
