MSI 890FX-GD70 Showcased

MSI shows off one of the first high end AM3 motherboards based on the upcoming 890FX chipset from AMD.

The motherboard features new technologies like SATA 3 support and USB 3.0 but perhaps the most interesting feature is the presence of the six full length x16 slots of an unknown lane configuration. The 890FX chipset supports 32 lanes with up to 4 x8 slots and the last one should be an x4 slot running from the SB850 southbridge which also takes care of the SATA 3 duties. It is unknown how MSI will get the lanes for the 6th slot but since the board doesn't seem to have an Nvidia or PLX PCI-e switch anywhere, it may be possible that two of the six slots are sharing the four PCI-e lanes from the southbridge.
USB 3.0 is provided by a third party chip, as AMD has still not implemented it in SB8x0 series.

Awesome, if this motherboard has anything to do with the MSI 790FX-GD70, then it's more than a winner. It may very well be one of the best high end motherboards out for AM3. Good Job MSI, keep up the good work. This motherboard is my next buy.
