Samsung aims at Hitachi with 500GB 2.5" HDD

On the footsteps of Hitachi, Samsung has announced a 500GB aimed at laptops and small form factor computers.
The model name for it is Spinpoint M6 and it uses perpendicular magnetic recording to achieve 166GB per plater, making it 500GB, or close.
Spindle speed is the standard 5400RPM, not the most laptop-exquisite 7200RPM with, paired with a SATA 3.0Gbps interface and 8MB of cache.
The good news for laptop users in dire need of the extra space, this size is already ordinary in the desktop, better even when Samsung managed to fit them in the standard 9.5mm of thickness that 2.5" drives use - something Hitachi couldn't achieve.

Deliveries are expected in March and no word was available yet on it's price.
