Nvidia will soon be releasing the 9500GT for the low-end market, replacing the 8500GT.
DX10.1 support is still not coming, but Purevideo version 3 is.
There will be two versions of the card, one with a 6 layer PCB and GDDR3 and the other with 4 layers and DDR2, the latter possibly being called 9500GS, if conventional naming follows, and lower clocks.
Clockspeeds for the 6 layer part are almost the same as the 9600GT - 650MHz for the core, 1650MHz for the shaders and 1800MHz for the memory, however it only has a 128bit wide memory interface. That is fine, since the shader units were also reduced to 32. Half of a 9600GT for, hopefully, half the price.
This card will make all 8600s look old next to it, while the HD3600 series will have a very tough time competing.
The current line up of the GeForce 9 series is very impressive, remembering the good old days of the GeForce 6 series. Nvidia will also be releasing the high-end 9800GX2 soon, the only thing lacking will be a proper $50 card, the G98 based 8400GS isn't.
