Pictures of another Nvidia 780i board from Asus have appeared on the web.
It's the Striker II Formula and it has support for DDR2-1066, 45nm CPUs and Asus is adding support for FSB 1600MHz CPUs through overclocking with an official BIOS. The 780i only supports 1333MHz FSB, but Asus is officially overclocking the chipset to support the QX9770 and future 1600FSB CPUs.
Shortly after the launch, Asus is rumored to also be introducing the Striker II Extreme, based on the Nvidia 790i chipset. Potential buyers should consider waiting for it, instead of this quick-fix that is the 780i. It will add official support for 1600MHz FSB, DDR3, more FSB overclocking capabilities and while it should cut on power consumption and heat through improved manufacturing process, it also adds official PCIe 2.0 support to the northbridge, resulting in removal of the NF200 bridge chip and further cuts in power consumption.
The official launch date of the 790i wasn't still disclosed by Nvidia, but launch of the QX9770, Intel's first 1600FSB CPU is expected in January 2008.
