Acer Laptops With AMD C-50
The model is the Aspire 5253 and comes equipped with one screen that is... wait for it... 15.6" diagonal. Nice...
So, although not uncommon for Acer, they are now sticking very low end CPUs(1GHz dual core) on 15.6" laptops and charging the same than what you would pay for a Pentium or AMD Phenom based laptop. Comparing with other AMD offerings, this one offers better battery life and decent graphics but at the expense of a lot of processing power. Compared to Intel, you lose even more processing power and win a bit on the graphics side(though with better drivers to boot).
This is a bad practice because a customer picking this up will have unreasonable expectations, while not offering an awesome battery life due to the bigger screen than 10" to 12" laptops. The battery is 48Wh, which is not bad, but that can't push running time beyond 5 hours.
Overall the rest of the laptop is decent, since it starts at $349 with 2GB of RAM, Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n Wi-Fi. If you're not worried about the size, this is a better option than Atom based netbooks but a lot worse than similarly priced Core 2 architecture based offerings like Intel's Pentium P6100.
My recommendation is to stay away from it unless it magically gets upgraded to - at least - a 1.6 GHz E-350, which can be found on many smaller laptops that sell for $400-$500, like HP's dm1z, that also have better battery life and similar port configurations.
