AMD Phenom II TWKR sold for $11600 on eBay
AMD sets an unexpected record eBay sale.
Could AMD sell these at such a good margin, it would have not had problems with cash.
The CPU in question was the first of two being auctioned off to support an educational fund, so there's also a good reason for the very high number of $11,600. The second CPU is now at $1,050, in an ongoing auction.
The Phenom II 42 TWKR is an overclocking CPU that was not to be sold to public and it's still unclear if AMD granted permission to sell the CPU in any way.
It is a special binned processor that runs at 2GHz and 1.45v stock but is unlocked and AMD says it's supposed to overclock 100 to 200MHz higher than the best Phenom II 955 out there. One of the samples has hit 7GHz with special cooling methods, surely what AMD intended for them, almost free publicity.
