Intel cuts prices, AMD answers back.

In an anticipated response to the launch of the competitive AMD Phenom II last week, Intel has cut the prices on most if it's Core 2 lineup, while introducing some new 65W quad-cores along the way.

The most significant price cuts, regarding the Phenom II, are:
  • Q9650 12MB L2, 3GHz, 95W - $316
  • Q9550 12MB L2, 2.83GHz, 95W - $266
  • Q9400 6MB L2, 2.66GHz, 95W - $213
  • Q8300 4MB L2, 2.5GHz, 95W - $183
  • Q8200 4MB L2, 2.33GHz, 95W - $163
The Q9550 and Q9400 would then be lower priced than the Phenom IIs - which launched at $275 and $235, for the 940 and 920 models - except that there one site is reporting AMD will also further cut prices to $225
and $195. How nice of them.
AMD has still to confirm this price cut, officially.

Intel has also announced three 65W models, although most people will want to skip this: they're priced about $100 over the regular flavor:
  • Q9550s 12MB L2, 2.83GHz - $369
  • Q9400s 6MB L2, 2.66GHz - $320
  • Q8200s 4MB L2, 2.33GHz - $245
The 9550s costs $103 more. Go figure.

There are also some new dual-core low end models, do check the full list at Dailytech
