In the second quarter of 2009, AMD reported a net loss attributable to AMD
common stockholders of $330 million or $0.49 per share, which includes the net
favorable impact of $86 million, or $0.13 per share, primarily from the sale of
inventory written-down in the fourth fiscal quarter of 2008 as described in the table
below2. AMD’s operating loss was $249 million.
These are lower losses than the last quarter, on the road the the profit promised by CEO Dirk Meyer by Q4 2009.
The sales of AMD graphics unit are up by 13% and amount to $251 million, although average selling prices are down.
Apple is up in after hours trading after beating analyst's estimates for this quarter:
Profit rose to $1.23 billion, or $1.35 a share, from $1.07 billion, or $1.19, a year ago, Apple said today in a statement. Sales gained 12 percent to $8.34 billion in the quarter ended June 27. Analysts on average predicted profit of $1.17 and sales of $8.21 billion, according to a Bloomberg survey.
Notebook and iPhone sales were the big profit drivers for Apple this quarter passed.
