A while ago, some clever hackers made a very interesting presentation at the 24th CCC.
They clearly highlighted what was well implemented in the Xbox 360's security and what failed. The most serious flaw regarded the hypervisor, something which Microsoft promptly fixed with a dashboard update and some burned e-fuses. Microsoft guy's were well prepared for the problems they would face. They implemented practical measures to solve problems they couldn't yet predict at the time of launch, and that's something we don't get to see every day.
In any way, having to load a modified game to exploit the console is far from practical and should be taken more as a proof-of-concept than anything else.
Calling them nerds is an understatement, especially when they get to explain the timing attack, definitely an extreme measure and one of the most resourceful attacks I've ever seen.
Obviously, the DVD drive hack isn't discussed here - as it doesn't allow to run homebrew software - but it is the major hole in Microsoft's console and a big mistake which will cause them the biggest financial loss from piracy, at least for now.
It's a long, worthy to watch, presentation and in the end they even discuss the situation of Wii homebrew, where they made some considerable strides lately.
