Microsoft releases Vista SP1 final, XP SP3 RC2 on the web

Early adopters can now engage in some testing with Microsoft updates to their two latest desktop operating systems, by downloading them from the web.

Vista's SP1 is only planned to be unleashed onto the mass market in March, by which time the claimed driver incompatibilities should have been cleared up, driver incompatibilities which come from a new kernel.
Something should have been seriously wrong with the original kernel for it to get it replaced, even more when they didn't managed to maintain compatibility with some drivers.
This will probably enrage some more hardware manufacturers, making drivers continuously lag behind when it comes to Vista, a picture all too familiar by now.
The new kernel will either help Vista perform better or further sink it into oblivion, while Vista-ME2 jokes seem to get more serious every passing day.
