 8800GS review
8800GS reviewThe card, introduced a while ago, has finally been benchmarked and the results are somewhat pleasing.
Unlike it's normal sibling, this card packs quite some high clocks, 680MHz for the core, 1700MHz for the shaders and 1600MHz for the ram, although it remains 192bits wide and the shader count stays at 96.
This is still quite good, since it almost manages to catch up with the 8800GT 512MB. The only problem is it does suffer in bandwidth intensive situations, like the 256MB 8800GT.
The price is in the 170eur range. It could become lower, if there is enough quantity of the thing. It was supposed to be an OEM only part, when it was disclosed.
Although not mentioned in the review, overclocking may prove very interesting since these XXX cards are the best of best among speed bins. Not long ago I picked a 8800GT 256MB XXX 650M which did almost 800MHz core and +2GHz mem, with just coolbits on auto - on stock air.
It's a good card for someone in need, skip it if you can hold on till the 9600GT hits the stores.
If you're on the look for a 256MB 8800GT, this card performs about the same, while being cheaper.
