ATI RV770 taped out, launch in Q2 2008

Rumors on the net claim that the RV770 has tapped out and will be the chip used for all the cards of the R700 generation, except for the low-end. Either we're in for an architectural surprise from ATI, in the form of multi-core, or these rumors are wrong somewhere. ATI usually has used the extra 'V' in the codename to denote value parts, though that has changed with the controversial naming of the HD3800 series.
The chip is going to be manufactured in 55nm at TSMC and will support DX10.1, like the current HD3800 line.
Expected release date is the second quarter, but could slip into the start of the third quarter.
