Axiotron ModBook arriving soon

California based Axiotron will be releasing the first Mac tablet PC in January, though the final date is still subject to confirmation.
They managed to do this by using "off-the-shelf" MacBooks and then fitting them with the custom parts need to turn it in a full fledged Tablet PC. Of course the final price is high, but not as high as I anticipated. The price for which they are taking orders is $2279 for the base model and $200 more for the top model. Not a bad price, considering that such a feat required serious research work and disassembling the original Macbook to fit it with the custom parts.
The specifications for the two models are the same than the two white MacBooks, plus some gadgets they shoved in there, like a built-in GPS.
This could well turn in to a pointless product if Apple announces a Tablet version the Macbook, which has been rumored to be in it's plans for some time. If they don't, this is your only choice for MacOS X + Tablet PC and the pricing isn't that ridiculous considering traditional Tablet PC pricing.
The only downside is the use of the original combo drive in the base model, which is ridiculous nowadays. Apple is being stubborn by not fitting the SuperDrive in all the models, but for the extra $1200 Axiotron charges, they should have fitted it with one.
