Xbox 360 - Falcon dissected

Anandtech had a look inside one with with the falcon board.
Power consumption is down from 173W to a more reasonable 120W, a pretty good improvement considering the console doesn't have all the chips at 65nm.
What does it have then? The CPU seems to be 65nm but the reduction in chip size seems quite small considering that the shift from 90nm is a big one. With major process shrinks, like this, manufacturers are able to cut chip size in approximately half, most of the time. This is only 75% smaller, so it may be 80nm, or some other stuff, like TSMC's 80nm half-node or another process. AMD did the Palomino core for Athlon XP at 180nm, with some parts at 130nm, so it's not something strange to expect.
The other two chips, the GPU and corresponding eDRAM, are also about 85% smaller. Maybe just a reduction from 90nm to 80nm, as this is an easier step for chip manufacturers.
Let's hope the "red ring of death" issue was dealt with for this revision of the console. It's a problem that has given the Xbox 360 a bad image with customers and a big financial loss for Microsoft due to the extended 3 year warranty covering this defect.
