It seems that AM3 CPUs will have both DDR2 and DDR3 controller. This will allow for users of AM2+ boards to upgrade to AM3 CPUs in currently available boards. Kudos to AMD.
Still, it is yet unknown if AM3 CPUs will run in HT1.0 DDR2 AM2 boards, though it doesn't seem to be more than a BIOS update stopping it, like most AM2 boards and the new AM2+ CPUs which support HT3.0. They simply run at HT1.0 in these older boards.
If true, this will allow the use of these improved AM3 CPUs, though without DDR3 support and without HT3.0, if they run on AM2 boards.
Reference boards will use RS780+SB700 chipsets combo.
