If your on the market for a performance gaming laptop, you'll be happy to know that Nvidia is launching two new models based on the G92, replacing the 8700M as the top laptop part.
The new 8800M GTS model features 64 shader units and the GTX has 96. That is still lower than what's available in the desktop, but the clocks are very good for laptop parts. The core is clocked at 500MHz, shaders at 1200MHz and the 512MB of RAM at 1600MHz.
This allows for very good performance in mos recent games. Playing Crysis with the proper detail "on the go" is no longer a dream.
Power consumption is rated at 5W idle and 45W in load. Pretty high, but these cards are intended for big, desktop replacement, laptops. Cooling and battery time isn't a problem on those.
I would prefer to get 128 shaders on a lower clock, probably enjoying lower power consumption with the same performance, but Nvidia doesn't think so. They could be G92 chips that don't have all the shader units fully working, so they can't be used for 8800GTs. If they were qualifying the chips based on current leakage, we would be getting at least 112 shader processors cards.
