Both PCWatch and Virtualization Journal came out with reports on the matter, and although there will be a shared L3 cache, the size is still uncertain and is pointed out to be either 12MiB or 16MiB.
The new core is codenamed "Dunnington" and will be composed of three cores on the same die, unlike the current "Harpertown" Xeons and "Yorkfield" Core 2 CPUs, which are composed of two dies on the same package.
The new CPU is Core 2 based and will replace "Tigerton" CPUs, fitting in the same "Caneland" platform, which is Intel's current four-socket platform.
